CEX vs DEX: self-custody trading on Robinhood Chain
TrnchLabs
Centralized exchange or decentralized exchange? What changes when you trade from your own wallet on Robinhood Chain (chain ID 4663): custody, listings, fees, routing and risks.
A centralized exchange (CEX) holds your funds and matches your orders on its own books. A decentralized exchange (DEX) is a set of smart contracts: you trade from your own wallet, against on-chain liquidity pools, and nobody holds your money for you. On Robinhood Chain, every new token trades on DEX pools first. Here is what changes when you leave the exchange account for a wallet.
Custody: who holds the funds
On a CEX, your balance is a number in the exchange's database: you can trade it, but withdrawals depend on the exchange. On a DEX, tokens stay in your wallet until the moment you sign a swap. No account to freeze, no withdrawal queue, and also no support desk to reverse a mistake: your recovery phrase is the only key.
What you can trade
- CEX: tokens the exchange chose to list, usually days or weeks after launch.
- DEX: any token with a pool, from the first block. That includes the best launches and the worst ones.
- On Robinhood Chain, new memecoins appear on DEX pools and launchpad curves long before any listing.
Price and fees
A CEX shows one order book. A DEX price depends on the pool you hit and the size of your trade: a large order in a thin pool moves the price against you. On Robinhood Chain you pay gas in ETH, plus the pool fee. An aggregator compares routes across several pools and routers so you do not have to.
The risks move too
On a CEX, the main risk is the exchange itself. On a DEX, the risk is the token and the transaction you sign: rug pulls, honeypots, fake copies of trending tokens, and approvals you forgot. Check the contract address, read what your wallet asks you to sign, and revoke approvals you no longer use.
How Trnch fits
Trnch is a DEX aggregator for Robinhood Chain. Each swap is quoted across KyberSwap, 1inch, Uniswap, LI.FI and Sushi, and the best return is built for your wallet to sign. Trnch never holds funds and never asks for your recovery phrase. New tokens are screened by TIA before they enter the Heat, and Trnch refuses to route a swap into the ones it keeps out.
FAQ
Is a DEX better than a CEX?
Neither is better for everything. A DEX gives you custody and access to tokens from launch; a CEX gives you an account, support and listed tokens only.
Do I need an account to trade on Robinhood Chain?
No. You need an EVM wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby, and a little ETH on Robinhood Chain for gas.
Does Trnch hold my funds?
No. Every swap is signed in your own wallet, and the tokens stay there.
What is a DEX aggregator?
A tool that compares routes across several DEX pools and routers and builds the swap with the best return.
